Did you know a whole house tank will improve your air quality?

That’s right! An Aquaspace Whole House filter will not only improve your water quality, but your air quality as well. Many gases and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are actually waterborne, meaning they travel in water, and can evaporate into the air during the use of everyday activities and appliances requiring water, therefore entering your homes atmosphere and effecting the air you and your family breathe.

If you are concerned about VOCs and household gases like Radon, whole house systems are the way to go. The Polaris whole house systems are known as “POE” systems. POE stands for Point-of-Entry, meaning it will filter the water at the point in which it enters your home. POE systems are the ONLY way to prevent harmful waterborne gases and VOCs from escaping and entering your homes atmosphere.

VOCs and gases can be present in your local water supply and can travel into your home via your pipes. Once in your pipes, they can evaporate into your household atmosphere during the use of everyday appliances. This means that when you fill your bath tub, run your dishwasher, or use your sink—VOCs and dangerous gases could be escaping into your air. For example:

If you are on municipally treated water (75% of Americans are), chlorine is most likely used to disinfect your water. Due to the reaction of chlorine with trace organics in the water, chlorinated water supplies will have some amount of trihalomethanes (THMs). Chloroform is an example of a THM. THMs are a subset of VOCs. Chloroform is a VOC that acts on the central nervous system and is a known carcinogen. Studies show that exposure to waterborne VOC’s such as chloroform is SIX times greater through inhalation and skin absorption than from drinking water directly. VOC’s like chloroform evaporate rapidly from your water during normal household activities such as dish washing, using the garbage disposal, doing the laundry, cleaning, bathing, and flushing the toilet. At normal shower temperatures, 50% of chloroform in water escapes into the air—before the water even reaches the shower floor!

This means Point-of-Use systems that filter the water right before you use it (like a pitcher or kitchen sink filter), might not be doing enough. While they certainly will offer you clean, drinkable water, they won’t do anything to protect you from airborne gases or VOCs that may have entered your household atmosphere through your dishwasher, washer machine, or shower usage. As mentioned previously, we absorb six times more chemicals through bathing and breathing each day, than we do drinking water. That’s why we highly recommend using POE systems (Whole House Filters) to provide you with not only clean, great tasting, healthy water all throughout your home, but a safe household atmosphere for you and your family.

Are they more convenient?

100%. It’s clear POE systems are your best defense against waterborne chemicals and gases that can escape into your air AND for clean drinking and bathing water. But not only do they offer you a cleaner air quality, they also offer you convenience. Imagine clean water from any source in your home. No more having to walk all the way down to the kitchen for a clean drink of water. Any faucet in your house can offer you the same clean, chemical-free water. Chlorine-free water will be available from any faucet or shower head, allowing you to experience a new meaning of clean. Showering and bathing will never be the same! The water you use for brushing your teeth, washing your hands and face, even the water you use for your pets will be clean and healthy. You won't have to worry about what's in your water any longer.

What about installation or replacements?

All our Polaris Whole House Systems come with installation and instruction sheets. They come equipped with an automatic valve pre-programmed to backwash your unit, ensuring the quality of the filtration media will last. You will also need to have access to a drain line, so that during the backwash stage sediment build up can be flushed out of the unit.

Our tanks also require a professional plumber for installation. We highly recommend coordinating with your local plumbing company to do the installation, and to determine any additional costs for labor that may be involved in servicing the tanks.

All our tanks come with a rated time and gallon capacity. For Aquaspace tanks the lifespan is 12-18 months or 400,000* gallons. We typically say its best to replace the media on a yearly basis to ensure optimum water quality. The valves on top of the tanks will also come with a gallon-tracker to track how many gallons of water you’ve used to help determine when you need to reorder replacement media.

Replacement media kits are available and are determined by the size of the tank. Replacing the media does not require a professional plumber, however we recommend having someone with general handyman skills available to do the replacement. A set of detailed instructions will be provided.

A Valve-in-Head Post Sediment Filter is also highly recommended with installation of any Fluoride Reduction or Aquaspace Whole Home Systems. This is used as a “polishing” filter to be installed after the tank to ensure no media enters your household plumbing at any point during water usage. See Model AP-100-4N1 here.

*based on a PO-400A sized tank (9” x 48” tank).

The Polaris IV Fluoride & Heavy Metals Whole House Filter does not share the same life (capacity) as our Aquaspace Compound, and as such we offer the stand alone system, which can be replaced independently to our VOC Reduction Aquaspace unit. See table below.

The PO-400F tank (Fluoride & Heavy Metal) is ideal for both municipal and well water. For municipal water it will provide you with clean fluoride-free water for both drinking and bathing. For well water it will protect you and your family from potentially dangerous heavy metals that may be in your well.

Investment in your health and your home.

Whole house water filters are the most efficient form of water filtration and when compared to the cost per gallon of clean water, the most economical. For example, our Polaris IV will give you 400,000 gallons of clean water. That comes out to $0.005 per gallon, that's ½ of one cent! Not only are whole house filters a great investment in your health, they are a great investment in your home. A whole house water filter adds to the value of your home. In fact, Forbes magazine called adding a home water filtration system a “serious game changer” and will “increase your home’s value and impress buyers with filtered water directly from any faucet in the house — it’s pure luxury, and this amenity will pay off now and in the future when it’s time to sell.”
